The Molecular Cardiology section
The Molecular Cardiology section of the Dept. of Cardiology and Angiology of the University Clinic Giessen and Marburg (UKGM) is a translational research center, dedicated to combine cutting edge basic sciences with preclinical and clinical studies in the field of vascular and parenchymal heart and lung diseases. Research is organized on different levels of complexity such as identification of molecular signatures and signalling processes, assessment of cellular phenotypes and functions, integrative in vivo disease models and preclinical studies as well as clinical trials.
Mission
Diseases of the heart and blood vessels like atherosclerosis and ischemic heart disease are the most common causes of death in industrialized countries. Future progress in the treatment of cardiovascular disease can only be achieved by combining basic science and applied clinical research. The UGMC has been established as a translational research unit dedicated to the development of novel strategies for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
People
The UGMC group led by Prof. Daniel Sedding consists of basic scientists as well as clinical scientists, dedicated technicians and students, combining their knowledge, experience and efforts to push forward the field of cardiovascular research and medicine.
